Freedom of speech is the concept of the inherent human right to voice one's opinion publicly without fear of censorship or punishment. The right is enshrined in the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and is granted formal recognition by the laws of most nations. Nonetheless the degree to which the right is upheld in practice varies greatly from one nation to another. In some nations with relatively authoritarian forms of government, overt government censorship is enforced, while among liberal democracies, censorship has been claimed to occur in a different form (see propaganda model) and there are different approaches to issues such as hate speech, obscenity, and defamation laws.
The first formal request for freedom of speech in recorded history was made by Sir Thomas More in front of the English Parliament and King Henry VIII on April 18, 1523.

I personally believe that everyone has a right to an opinion - i agree that some are just plain rude, offensive, racsist etc etc. But, the way to show those people for what they really are is to ignore them, not reply to them, give them negative ratings!! But I have seen many sensible and excellent questions and answers removed, purely down to spite. Yet I see many questions and answers remain, which are rude, offensive, racist, intolerant and spiteful. So, why do some get removed and others don't?

I think the reason some people feel the need to impose there views and censure others is fundamentally an issue of intolerance.
Alot of people are in favour of freedom of speech as long as what is being said is what they want to hear, but when confronted with an opposing view that challenges there own, seem to have a hard time accepting others rights.
what it really comes down to is if you or I,have the right to are beliefs and ideas ,than so does everyone else.
the exceptions being when what is being said is promoting hatred, prejudice and intolerance. If the langauge being used isn't something you would say in front of your grandmother or kids, then you probably shouldn't be said to a wider audience.
we live in a free society ,you don't have to like everything you hear or agree with it,but you have accept that other people have a right to say it.

Freedom of speech does not mean having the freedom to be abusive or mean because it's what you have to say and should have the right to do so. If a common answer to something is contrary to what a person believes, then that is something acceptable. When that answer throws personal slurs and weak mentality in the form of bad language, it becomes unacceptable. Come on, surely you've seen stuff like that on here. I have! This is a site for helping people with their questions and not liking the answer is individual taste. Finding the answer in poor taste is quite different from simply not liking or agreeing with the answer. Answers in poor taste need to be erased, or best of all, not made in the first place.

Yes I do. Some people take certain answers as being rude or insulting, against the rules. Some people on here are from other countries I suppose and they don't have these Freedoms????
Some people are just anal. It's the way Y/A works if you don't like it you could always set up your own site that works differently.
Also there are very young children on here and it can be illegal to expose them to certain things with Adult content.

I believe in freedom of speech. I guess some answers get reported because they are too offensive or for some sort of violation of Yahoo rules. Some people just like to report others.

I believe in freedom of speech but you are using a system that was set up privately and you agree to the terms of use. If you violate the terms of use they have the right to do what they will. After all, you voluntarily check that box before using yahoo even if you don't read the terms and conditions.

Anyone can condemn another and heap points on them and get their Yahoo screwed, including mail. I've had a certain group do this to me....I'm not going to mention their name, (Pink mafia).
Complaining about this is the only way to insure democracy from the tyrants that won't return it. Good luck.

i am agree with u, people have their own opinion for this, for exacple if u want to prove some one he is wrong and u are right, and all this years u doing wrong thing, it will hard for them.
freedom of speech, is good when u say it in good way, and people should give u this right to speak and tell ur opinion freely. and u can left choose of it free for them if they want accept it or not.

Yes I do believe in freedom of speech. They probably don't believe that it was a true answer for them and they probably felt offended by their response when they knew it was the right answer and neglected it.

Your freedom is based on the rules set forth by the forum in question. Americans need to understand the difference between "Freedom" and "License".
