I'm from Florida and the whole hurricane situation is completely exaggerated by outsiders who are not from Florida. To tell you the truth, the majority of hurricanes are not bad at all. It is only once in awhile (like in a couple years) when a big hurricane comes and destroys everything. The last hurricane that did that happened ten years ago.
Hurricanes just feel like very loud thunderstorms. You just sit around in your living room while the storm is passing, and by the time that you wake up in the morning, the storm has passed.
The Southern tip of Florida (including the west coast, Tampa) gets hit by more hurricanes than the other parts of Florida... there is no reason to get your panties all wet over a stupid little storm
And moving to Florida is completely worth it... depending on which part of Florida. The northern part is more like the southern states, but the south is more like a Hispanic country... kind of like Cuba because a lot of people refuse or do not know how to speak English. For example, where I am from (Miami), Spanish is like the first language. Also, the southern part of Florida is completely different from the rest of the US because of all of the immigrants. The majority of the people that live in the southern part of Florida are not natives of US.There are a lot of Cubans, West Indians (like Jamaicans, Trinidadians, etc.), Puerto Ricans, Colombians, Peruvians, etc. While I was growing up there, practically 95% of the kids in my class were either immigrants, or their parents/grandparents were immigrants (this includes me, my father is Jamaican/Cuban and my mother is 3rd generation Bahamian). Caribbean and Lain culture is different than American culture, therefore you will see kids wearing "inappropriate" clothing. For instance, I am from Miami and I moved to San Diego... people think that I dress a little bit too..."revealing". But where I am from, that is normal. Little kids run around wearing halter tops. If you can not handle the culture, then no, don't move there.
One more thing... stay away from the beaches during the summer... a lot of kids get killed by shark attacks during June-July. Florida has a lot of things to do and it is a very entertaining state. We have millions of theme parks so you can always take your children to water parks like Rapids, Wet & Wild, etc. There is so much to do there... I want to move back eventually after I am done with HS.

There is way more to worry about then hurricanes in Florida. I don't know if I would move back. Its hard to figure that one out.
Florida is made out to be this beautiful paradise, where everyone is happy all the time without a care in the world. Let me tell you honestly, and I have lived there, it is NOTHING like that.
Yes it is beautiful dont get me wrong. But it does get cold (last week it was 28 in St Pete in the morning time), Tornadoes come and go (year round with little notice) and yes you are right hurricanes. There are roaches EVERYWHERE, and they FLY. Huge cockroaches, no matter how clean a person you are, they will be in your home. Not to mention it is VERY hard to find a safe neighboorhood in Florida. If you do your research and know what you are in for, it can be a nice place to live, but way too many people go there expecting it to just be this beautiful paradise.
However if hurricanes are the only thing stopping you, I would think that should be the last thing you worry about, if your not one of the morons who deside to "wait it out". They can be tracked days in advanced and if you do all to protect yourself and family, and leave the area affected, you should be ok. Yes your home may recieve some damage but at least your family and pets are safe and ok.

There is no need to fear hurricanes so much. Hurricanes can be tracked for a long time, which gives you enough time to gather all your valuables and go to a safe location.
I do not mean that hurricanes are not dangerous, because they can be deadly. I have survived, Hurricanes David, Hugo, Luis, Marilyn, and Georges. I am a Disaster Relief Instructor and if there is one thing that I have learned about working during hurricanes, is that most of the deaths could be prevented if people only would obey the evacuation orders given by the authorities.
By all means, go to Florida, it is a gorgeous State. You will fall in love with it, I am sure of it. And when you hear that a hurricane is coming, closely follow the instructions given by the National Weather Service, FEMA and the Emergency Teams. You will be just fine.

Considering I'm from Florida and am trying to get stationed at a base there, I'd have to say yes!
What part of Florida would you be moving to? I'm from the northwest part(Fort Walton Beach. It's in between Pensacola and Destin) and I've been through Opal, Andrew and one other hurricane; nothing was destroyed, we just lost power for a little bit.
The only advice I can give about being scared of something is just to face it when it happens. There's no other way to get over your fears IMHO. Oh yeah, stay away from beach front properties. D:

When I travel and tell someone that I live In CA people always ask me how I deal with Earthquakes. When you move someplace, you learn to deal with your surroundings. No matter where you live, you have to deal with the chance of a natural disaster, whether its tornados, hurricanes, or earthquakes. At least with hurricanes you know when they are coming and can either go away when they are due, or prepare for what is to come. You also have a season when they come and need to prepare for them. With earthquakes, they come anytime, without warning. There are no earthquakes in Florida!!

Hurricanes are usually just glorified thunder storms. Huge disasters can happen from them but not on a regular basis. Natural disasters can happen anytime any where. Face life with great courage and positive thinking, you will do fine.

Hurricanes are a real danger but shouldn't prevent you from moving to FL if
you have a good opportunity awaiting you there. Many states have dangers but should not be the determining factor in any move. Flooding, snow avalanches, tornadoes, extreme heat factors could all be considered dangerous to us but we should live our lives with faith and not fear.

Well, personally I feel that every place has its natural disasters and you shouldn't be afraid of them. Like California, there are a lot of Earthquakes, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't live there. But if you don't want to take that risk, you can always move somewhere with less nature disasters. I think you should consider your current situation, as to your job, and family etc.

I would move anywhere for the right opportunity. But I also take into consideration where my family is. Being close to my family is very important to me. I also know though, if the opportunity was that great, they would be more than supportive of my decision.

Wherever you go, there are possibilities of natural or human disaster. I don't think you should worry about that.
Like very often if you are in a very safe place, car accidents, terrorist things happened too.
Leave everything to God
