The majority of Americans are Christians, but this is not a Christian nation. The government must be an atheist government in order for Religious Freedom be enforced.

The worse thing that could happen is for this to become a Christian Nation. That would mean the forced indoctrination of Christianity as it happens in other countries, where the religious leaders are the ones who do the "thinking", and the people are the sheep without freewill to decide how to live their own lives.

Well, not all of us live in the USA, so you shouldn't really say 'this'. I think people who proclaim that the USA is a Christian nation for any reason other than that the majority are Christian really need to learn some history.

However, a state religion doesn't mean that there's no freedom of religion. Here in the UK there are still a number of vestigal ties between church and State, but there is complete freedom of religion, and a very small minority are regular churchgoers.

However, those that proclaim America as a christian nation do often want to deny religious freedoms to other faiths, which is abhorrent.

The United States of America was founded on Christian principles. The Pilgrims came to the New World because they were being forced into religions. Freedom of religion is in America, and it means that the government can't force a religion on you like England was trying to do to the Pilgrims. And actually, Assad, a majority of the people in the world are Christians! Check out http://www.adherents.com/Religions_By_Adherents.html. I don't agree that America is a Christian nation, however, because God has been rejected time and time again.

People who do proclaim that the U.S. is a Chr*stian nation are very, very full of themselves and have their heads very, very far up their behinds.

1. NO, this country was not founded on "Chr*stian values" do you people think you are the first ones to come up with this thing called morality? I find it funny when you seem to think so.

2. None of the founding fathers were Chr*stian.

This country cannot have perfect freedom of religion as long as it is called a "Chr*stian Nation" and not a "Melting Pot Nation" or whatever nation title sounds better, since Chr*stian holidays will then be legal bank holidays, you'll see religious icons on every street corner, missionaries would have free reign in schools, and abortion, along with half the country's important scientific research, will be outlawed. Chr*stian values are not values 10 million of us agree on. Freedom of religion would go down the toilet, and it would just give the fundies even more steam to go out and 1. proselytize 2. throw rocks at people they don't agree with on their holidays when the newest passion movie comes out

If America is a Christian nation, I'd like to see every single person in America who is not a Christian LEAVE. I don't mean that in a nasty sense. I mean that all of them, including atheists, should take their knowledge and the contributions they make to the country and leave. How many people would America lose, and who would those people be? 96% of eminent American scientists would leave, they are atheists. Bill Gates would leave. About ten million people would leave, and whatever country got them would be better off for having them. It would be America's loss. There go science and technology...the atheists took them with them.

When people say that America is a Christian nation, they are saying that approximately ten million Americans don't really belong there. Very interesting, considering that the country's founding fathers were not Christians.

Many claim that this nation (USA) is a capitalist nation too; when in fact we're a socialist nation on the tipping point of communist nation.

A capitalist nation would not collect taxes for education, retirement, and purpose taxation for health care. A socialist nation would. So, if the government didn't bully it's way into educating kids ---> private organizations like Churches would. Then political organizations like the ACLU (a political part for communism) wouldn't have to sue everyone and their dog over saying "God". Instead, Church's would find philanthropers to fund schooling for kids and not force them to go. This would cure the "Lazy" I want to drop out from our society. Ppl want what they can't have, and when you take away the "Free Social Programs" you'll get motivation.

We were founded as a Christian Nation.

Most people in the USA still call themselves Christian.

The founding fathers were guarding against a State Religion (like the Church of England) when they gave us freedom of religion.
It could be called, freedom from denomination.

if you do not follow the bible exactly and do as it says then you are not really a christian if you take away and add to the bible then you are not a christian the word of God is the bible and must be followed to the letter if you are not obeying the bible no amount of religious freedom will ever matter
