if it has an electrical cord just plug it in, it has an internal thermostat to keep it at the right temp. if it doesn't , then it uses a sterno type fuel that goes under it .

depends on what kind you have, but if you have the one that I have you need to put denatured alcohol in the bottom of it under the pot and then light a match and it will flame. you can buy denatured alcohol at the hardware store.

Either light the flame under it, or plug it into the wall and turn it on.

Using the switch labeled "On/Off"....make sure it is in the On mode.
