I work at an animal shelter so come into contact with many many different dogs of all breeds. I'd have to say my favourites have pretty much all been medium sized mixed breeds. They have been the ones that I've really connected to the most. Not only do they have so much personality (as all dogs do) but they usually don't have the same predisposition to health problems that some purebreds have (i.e. hip dysplasia in shepherds, ear problems in cockers). Mixed breeds are underrated!

Small dog - Standard size Dachshunds
Large Dog - German Shepard
Both very devoted to its owner, especially if reared from a puppy. GS very good with children and very protective of them. Dachshunds are good with children if they are introduced as puppies. Adult Dachshunds may not care for small kids if they have not been around them much.
