i've been wearing my rings for about three years and never had a problem until this morning. when i went to get in the shower, i took my rings off and underneath my skin was peeling, bright red, and there are a few hard callousy like bumpy areas. it's only happening where the rings usually are, but my finger is slowly swelling up. it's more itchy and uncomfortable than painful. just wondering if anyone knows what it could possibly be.

I suffer the same little discomfort on the ring finger,
and I do wear a ring.
It occurs just once in a blue moon.
The red color, the callosity, and it feels like a little splinter is in it.
It never lasts longer than a day or so.
So you don't consult your doctor.

I hope I can find something on the Internet,
and then I'll let you know.

(later:)

The possibility of an allergy, developed afterwards,
exists indeed (see sources),
but then the problem will last forever.

Unfortunately I couldn't find anything that explains
your, my wife's and my own little problem.
It surprises me that, up to now, you didn't get more answers
of people who are 'fellow-sufferers'.
Because I think it's a rather widespread phenomenon.

Our bodies are constantly changing. What you have never been allergic to before, may start causing extreme reactions now.
Or you could have accidentally gotten something under your ring which in turn became an irritant.
But, for years I wore a necklace I was very fond of. One morning I woke up with a 1" ring around my entire neck, very itchy, very uncomfortable. Once I took the necklace off, and replaced the chain with a ribbon, my rash went away on its own.

If there was any kind of leaf or paint or anything on the rings it could have flaked off and the metal underneath could have caused an irritation if you are allergic to it. Keep the rings off and if it looks infected go to the doctor.

It's an omen. Time to get a divorce and find a new cool person who believes in necklaces!
