No prayer is effective as you never get someone who answers on the other end. It's just a comfort like Linus' blanket. If any are 'answered' it really is nothing more than self-fulfilling prophecy.

Prayer is a means by which we draw nearer to God.
God hears all the prayers of the righteous. But consider the following:
A Christian hunter is hunting bears in the woods. While walking up a hill he grabs a branch for leverage and it breaks sending the hunter tumbling down the hill, gun flying off elsewhere. When the hunter dusts himself off he sees a huge bear charging him. The hunter begins running, but trips and falls, landing on his knees. Seizing the opportunity, and being a good Christian, the hunter begins to pray, "Lord, make this bear a Christian."
The woods are quiet, the hunter turns and, Hallelujah! He sees the bear on his knees, paws together, praying! Listening, he hears the bear praying, "Father, bless this food to my body."
The key point here is that God answers prayers of the righteous, but the answer you get may not be the answer you want, BUT it will always be the right answer.
I speak to God just as I write these words to you now. I have a conversation with Him each day. My prayers are conversations that follow a pattern. I start every prayer with the following: "Most merciful God, not my will, but yours be done." I repeat that phrase often during my prayers. Sometimes I will do so for tens of times just to quiet my mind and make it open to hearing from my Creator.
Use the following pattern in all your prayers and you will see them answered: Adoration, Contrition, Thanksgiving, and Supplication. See the links below for more information. (acronym: ACTS)

Between your prayers, study the scriptures, find a good bible commentary, and learn the fundamentals of your beliefs so that you can defend them. The more you learn the more questions you will have. I and others will be around to answer them when you want.

I guess it depends on the definition of prayer. I don't really believe that my 'prayer' reaches one being in particular. I think if I meditate on lovingkindness and have a sincere wish to alleviate the suffering of others then I increase my ability to love and decrease my ability to cause suffering in others. Since we have an energetic body, I believe that my 'good' energetic intentions can impact the larger 'energetic' global body. I don't know if this makes any sense, but it's the easiest way I can explain it, from a buddhist perspective.

Jewish prayers obviously don't work, otherwise the Jews wouldn't have to have endured all the sh!t they've been through.
Personally, I don't think any prayers work. People believe that there is an immensely powerful God, and then by some weird trick of logic try to turn Him into a wishing well. It doesn't make much in the way of sense.
I believe in God, but I don't pray.

All prayers work, given that all prayers are done in good faith and without bad intentions. People fight because they are ignorant, not because of discrepancies in levels of prayers being granted across faiths.

The effective prayers are only those that comes from your heart.
The why I will not say, because, everyone has a different personal opinion. All of them are valid to me.

none of the above. the prayers that you will find effective are the ones when you find yourself praying IN GOD"S WILL.

Nothing fails like prayer
But the neighbors simply must see us going through the motions, you know, otherwise what will they think?
