I don't remember what it is in their saliva but I do know that it makes their mouth cleaner than ours and it does have some healing properties as well. Your kids should be fine when the dog licks their face. If you still don't want them to let the dog lick their face then point out to them that he licks his but and crotch and that should discourage them a bit. Hope this helps you out.

My dog does the same to my kids and they love it. I think it is disgusting and won't let the dog lick MY face.
So far, my kids have been reasonably healthy and I don't think the licking has caused any illness or infection in them.
But yeah, it is very gross!

Have you seen what humans eat? Slaughter meat, dead vegetation...chicken embryos. Not to mention the garbage that comes from fast food restaurants. McDonald's "meat" is rated BARELY higher than that which comprimises dog food...when your kids are outside, playing, rolling around in the grass they are picking up those gross things outside on their skin as well, so whats the difference between rolling and playing in it than having a dog lick our faces.

You're right about the gross things. You never
know where a dogs tounge has been.
However, I have heard that if you let a dog
lick a sore it will heal quicker.

Not really, Dogs saliva can handle bacteria better than we can. This is why they can lick and eat things that would make us humans sick.

When people want excuses to do things they will say anything to justify it. When I was a boy when we handled the dog we had to wash our hands. Your question probably explains why we see people kissing their dogs on TV. To each his own, I guess.

nope they're not cleaner, the microbes they have in their mouths are usually species specific. so there are still bacteria and things floating around.

no, they aren't. they're eating different food. they used their tongue in cleaning their groin, skin, feet, & other parts of their body. including the mother dogs after giving birth to their puppies.
