Bound's hubby here:

Both Remington and Browning make high quality firearms. A point to keep in mind... many of the repeating firearms used today were either developed by or improved upon by John M. Browning. The reason some Brownings have a poor reputation today is because they are manufactured in Japan, not the traditional location.

The Remington 870 Express has an alloy receiver and hard wood stock. If you compare it to a 870 Wingmaster it is significantly lighter (the Express, that is). The Browning BPS has finer wood and may have an alloy receiver. It also has bottom feed/bottom eject, a feature I am not particularly fond of.

If you are looking for a knock-around shotgun, I would lean toward the Remington. But if you are looking at a long term investment, I would seriously consider the Browning.

Good luck.

That is definitely a tough question, but considering I own both of these guns, I would have to say the Remington. Remington's guns are time tested, and will last you a lifetime, and for future generations to come. The cleaning and routine maintenence for the Rem is much easier than the Browning as well. The Browning only allows the barrel to be removed, while the Rem allows full breakdown including the forearm and trigger mechanism. If you actually look in the BPS handbook, it says not to disassemble the forearm due to possible damage to the gun, so if you're looking for the same type of gun for the same price, go with the remington 870. It's "quite simply the best". Happy Hunting.

Remington 870 without a doubt. It is time tested for reliability and durability. Don't worry about the low price of the Express models. They just aren't as nice cosmetically as Wingmasters but for the most part will perform exactly the same. The 870 also comes in a left handed version.

The Browning is a nicer finished shotgun with bottom ejection if that is important to you.The 870 is the most popular pump of all time for a reason..it's the best!

The Remington. There's a reason they call the BPS a Big Pile of S***.

Remington's price on the gun & any accessories -barrels chokes ect.seems to be alot better. Also i love the expresses durable finish . You can beat it up & still won't show much wear.
