Well they say chocolate is bad for dogs and my staffy can't get enough of it. I know it's not big and clever but she has a very bad diet consisting of 1 pouch of her own meat everyday, a portion of her biscuits each day, choclolate, pizza, curry, toast and marmite every morning, cereal, yogurt etc etce etc and the vet says she is the fittest staffy he had ever seen. If your dog is happy eating grapes and there is no effect of him/her becoming ill then i don't see the harm. BUT eating them too regular my give him/her the runs!!!!

I've always been a picky eater. When I find something I like I tend to just eat that until I get sick of it. One summer I was on a grape kick. As I ate the grapes I would feed them to the dogs. It was funny at first, they weren't sure what to do with it. After a short time they learned how to eat the grapes. One of the dogs really loved them. I figured it was just fruit.. what could it hurt? My family fed our dogs all kinds of fruits and veggies. This dog ate many more grapes than the others. This continued throughout the summer. She got very ill very suddenly and had to be taken to the vet. I was young, so I don't remember all of the details. I do remember that she was in kidney failure. It was never linked to grapes. I've only known about this grape/raisin thing for 3 or 4 years. One day thinking back on it I wondered if that is what could've happened. I will never know, but I think that was it. The dog did survive, but she was sick and in the hospital for a while. She lived to be 16 and thankfully she did. I wouldn't be able to handle thinking I had accidentally killed her. Dogs having reactions to grapes/raisins is not common. But since it does happen it is not worth testing. I don't even allow mine even one anymore. If I drop a grape I instantly say "leave it!"

Hi

Grapes can be fatal to dogs

See the story on

http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_toxic_raisins.htm

Dog owners should heed this alert, which echoes a similar warning issued by the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center in 2002. Veterinarians are not sure why, but grapes and raisins have indeed proven poisonous to dogs in a significant number of cases reported over the past 15 years. Symptoms, which include vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia and lethargy, can last for days or weeks. Without prompt treatment, severe kidney damage and death may result.

NO MORE GRAPES. Grapes do something to the inside of the dogs body. You will not see the effects now, but in a few years it will cause your dog many problems and you ALOT of money at the vet. The outcome will probably be putting you dog down.

Please check out the national animal poison control website:

www.napcc.aspca.org

Grapes and raisins are definitely toxic - they don't know what makes them toxic, or what kinds of grapes/raisins are toxic, but they do know that in certain dogs they will cause kidney failure like antifreeze will.

Not all dogs that eat them get sick or die, but the ones that do can get sick from as few as 3 grapes. Feeding grapes or raisins is like playing russian roulette - are you willing to pull the trigger on that gun with the barrel pointed at your best friend??? I'm not!

Rachael Ray had a guest on her show a couple of weeks ago and she was one of the top Vets in NYC. Surprisingly she said grapes are poisonous to dogs.

No grapes! My dog at the end of her life, had kidney and bladder problems and the grapes we had fed her over the years complicated things. We had to put her to sleep at 10 yrs old.
Always ask your vet if you are unsure, people food may or may not be a wise choice.

You say your dog loves eating grapes and you then said that your boyfriend told you that grapes are poisonous to dogs. If they were poisonous, wouldn't your dog be dead by now?
