Fruits are seed containers.
When the seeds are ready to disburse, fruits become attractive to consumers, who eat the fleshy parts of the fruit and leave the seeds on the ground, often at some distance from where the plant origibally grew. Fragrange and sweetness add to the attraction for mammals, reptiles, birds, and insects of many kinds. Some fruits (berries) are typically eaten whole. Then the animal will digest the fruit, but pass the seeds in feces (ready-made fertilizer). Think of a bear who may forage over many miles.
