On my way to a friends house, i walked past a very small tabby which was looking really thin.
It circled me and i stroked it as it was looking worried and lost.

It then followed me around the village.

when i arrived at my friends house the cat stood outside of the house and scratched on the door wanting us to let it into the house...
i tried to contact the local vet but couldn't get through.
the only thing we could do was ignore it and hope it remembers where abouts it lives.

Now im worried that i might have led this cat too far from it's home and surroundings and is still roaming the village lost.

should we have let it into the house or did we do the right thing to leave it?

Most of the time cats can find their way home, however if it was very thin it may've been a stray, lost already for whatever reason, or kicked out or abandoned by its previous owners. Do your friends like cats? Maybe they can keep an eye out and if they see him hanging around all the time, let it in and take it to the vet to see if it's chipped or called in as lost.

I had a cat follow me home once, this was during summer and a very young kitty followed me when I walked home from the store. However he had a collar on with an address, quite near but since it was such a young kitten I still contacted them. The people at that address were gone but when I called with the neighbors, they said the home/cat owners were gone on vacation, and they were feeding the cat. Obviously the cat felt very alone with their owners gone even though it got enough food, and the neighbors said they'd take some more time to play with the kitty in addition to feeding it. Apparently that made the cat happy because even though the people didn't get home for another week, the cat didn't follow me home again :)

If it was really thin then it probably didnt have a home. You gave it attention which it craved and that is why he followed you. Cats tend to pick out their owners a lot of times. Hopefully being he is in a different spot now someone else will spot him and take him into their home.

I would keep it. It probably dont have a home. It might be starved or abused by its owners.
