I notice that not too many people in my neighborhood recycle. I find that it is a huge hassle to recycle, but I do it anyways. I'm looking for ideas that might make recycling a bit easier and more appealing.

If you don't recycle:
Does your city provide recycling bins at your home or around the city? For free, or at a cost?
What are the regulations for recycling in your area (do you have to clean out cans, remove labels, smash cans, etc?)
What could be done to make recycling more appealing to you?
Is there easy access to information on the recycling program in your area?
Would you be more inclined to recycle if some type of reward or payment was offered?

If you do recycle:
Why do you do it?
Do you find it somewhat convenient? Or is it a hassle?
What materials are you able to recycle?

If they want me to recycle they had better start paying me for it. Inject some capitalism into recycling and you will see the difference. Unless there is something in it for me I am not interested. That is the American way...Love it or leave it

The only thing that came to make recycling appealing unfortunately is.... CHINA

I explain: since they buy so much raw materials, prices for copper, steel, tin and aluminium rocketed !!! It even goes far beyond recycling since recycling companies get stolen from their collected materials ! Sewer seals out of steel also get stolen !

People working in the dumps sort more carefully the stuff and take for themselves the most appealing ´materials, mainly metals and in turn almost double their salaries.

On the top of that we´re such a wasting society that I would like to make the bet, I can build a house at 50% from products that would have been otherwise wasted...

Also concerning the financial appeal, dumps and garbage collector get money for biological waste since they´re high in energetic potential to produce biogases.

right, that´s the american way of life...

And that´s how my family visiting around NY discovered those vast endless areas of wastes which can otherwise only be found in underdevelopped countries... yes that´s the american way of life and seriously not a viable option for the planet.

At your use of resources per capita, living all your lifestyle we would need 7earth for the supply.

I recently calculated the chinese GDP per capita adjusted per purchase power parity and... surprise, they produce as much wealth as you per unit of energy used.

Sweden produces 4 times the more wealth than the US per unit of energy used... the EU 2 times.
