Yiu are describing most small dogs. What you really need to consider is your lifestyle. Do you live in a house, apt., condo? Do you have time for a dog? How much time do you have for a dog? Grooming, do you want to groom alot? A little? Are you home alot? Do you travel alot? Are there other people to consider? There is alot to look at other than just loyal, smart, freindly and sweet.
Good luck!

Hello,
Dogs are my favorite animal, but I think most all dogs are loyal, smart, and friendly. But as for small...I would go with either a small labradoodle or some kind of miniatuer dog. I have a labradoodle myself and she is VERY sweet. She is incrdibly cute too and only 50 lbs. But, if you want something smaller I would go with a spaniel. Cocker Spaniels, Springer Spaniels. They are all very cute and cuddly ad end up being quite small. I don't know if you are a little-bald-foo-foo kind of doglover, but I am not.
Good luck!

A DASHUND
She wont, nip or bite, act mean or nasty, is always in bed with you, will be barky to strangers but can be smart and sassy, she is cute ofcourse, loyal to the core and loyal means absolutely loyal... and small and long like a sausage.
She would be the best bet. I wish you the best choice. Bye

You can't get a breed that's all of those characteristics, usually. Small dogs, like chihuahas, are smart and friendly, but they aren't really sweet. Golden retrievers are smart, loyal, and friendly, but they are big and REALLY energetic. I guess you could get a middle sized dog, like a beagle.

I have a Jack Russell terrier and at first I was a little wary of their reputation as 'snappy' dogs. That has proved to be unfounded & he has become a joy & is so full of life & energy. Some effort is involved however to train him correctly & is not really reccomended for a first time dog-owner, otherwise, go for it!

I have 2 absolutely sweet PUG dogs. They are about 20 pounds so are not too small to be good active companions but not so large that they are too much. They are my best friends and my hubby and I spend as much time with them as we can.
