what does it mean?

when you ask a guy who seems intrested to your Prom, he's a senior, I'm a junior, and he's been my oldest friend and closest guy friend for eight years,

and all he had to say after thinking for a while was "I can't say yes to that just yet."

he plays Lacrosse alot and sometimes their games end up on saturdays and occaisonaly on the day of prom.

the dance doesn't start till 7 at night though..

It sounds to me like he considers you just a friend, but he's waiting to see if he'll have an actual date before making final plans. He doesn't want to hurt your feelings.
