Is it affecting him and /or your family, or are you just worried that it will affect his health? If it has a negative effect you should talk about it with your mom or siblings to see how they feel about it and what should be done. If you just want him to stop you need to back off because nobody is perfect and we all lean on something. If it really bothers you then have a heart to heart with him and let him know, then let it go. My dad was alcoholic. He`saw things in the war that he couldnt live with and that was his way of coping. He also was a very good father and successful businessman who was loved by all who knew him. He lived 82 years as well. He would come home from work and after dinner watch tv and drink martinis till he fell asleep in his chair. He never missed work, was never mean and always took care of us. Drinking eased the pain of his memories and didnt hurt us or anyone else. Try understanding, communication and love - it works.

I very well understand your concern for your father since i have gone thru a similar situation but please remember you cannot force your views on the opposite person. Now after my marriage and kids i have realised that there was no point being after my father - insisting that he stops drinking. He came up with all possible reasons to continue drinking. In fact, 90% of the men drink and if they drink in moderation and without any harm to anybody there is no big problem. In case of addiction, it is a grave concern which should be taken care but as u have mentioned he's not addicted to it so don't worry - time is the best healer. Don't nag him about it, instead tell him nicely that you all love him and want him - Be good to him, make him his favourite dish. Have a heart-to-heart talk to him, perhaps he'll understand yr concern for him but keep him happy. Possibly seeing your attitude towards him, he'll change. All the Best!

you do know that drinking in moderation has been linked to living longer than those who drink heavily, and those who don't drink at all? If he does about two glasses a day, i don't see what wrong with that. If he has the ability to put the glass down, and not drink that day, there really is no problem.

We can not force anyone to do anything.
If you let him know you are concerned about him and his health, you might be able to influence his decision about drinking.
Perhaps other family members will support you in talking to him.
Maybe a family meeting is in order?

Have you even spoken to your Dad about this? If you're concerned maybe he may listen. Drinking in moderation is OK for an adult. You should voice your concerns to him, but don't attack him, and don't expect him to change.

Stage a family intervention. Everyone needs to tell him how worried they are about him. How do you know he's not an alcoholic? It can be hidden for a long time.

It's every mans right to drink beer. As long as he's not chugging down 5+ everday, than he's fine. Although if you really want to stick it to him, hide all of his hangover cure ingredients.
