I do not know my ancestors. I don't have any information about them at all. I want to know if i really am what my parents tell me. Are there any tests i can take or anything to find out who i am?

See, in my case, neither one of my parents knows much about their ancestors. But through research and common sense I have discovered that I am a mixed blood from a native South American tribe called Bororo and from immigrants from Portugal and from Spain. What race? None. I am not white, I am not black. I am brown. My daughter is a typical all American woman as my gran daughter. My son is dark like me but he is not a father yet. Among my 9 bothers and sisters, some have children also with Afro-descendants. So, my parents have grandchildren that go from Blondie to mulatto. No telling what race we are. Who cares?

The only way to know for certain is by genetic testing. DNA testing is costly though so the best bet would be to talk with grand-parents and look at family trees and family portraits. If someone in the family has a characteristic like the "Hapsburg lip" which is an overhanging lip then they are German decent. If they have "puffy lips" then usually African decent. But it is more accurate to do genetics testing.

Yes, there are companies that do testing

Testing Companies' Websites: Yet another option is to search at the websites of some of the companies that offer these genetic tests. These include Family Tree DNA (www.familytreedna.com), Relative Genetics, and DNA Heritage (www.dnaheritage.com).

Good Luck!!

yes--National Geographic has a project to map the DNA of the human race. It costs $100. They will send you something to swab your mouth with, which you return. They will give you a DNA profile ON YOUR MOTHERS SIDE ONLY. It is a very worthwhile project to participate in. You can get info online.

congo and Bruce are wright, but you just remember that there's only one race: the human race, you'd better use ethnicity.
