Diabetes awareness is another good one. So many baby boomers are in their older years and have no clue what it is, how it effects their health long term, and what the warning signs of it are.

My dad was diagnosed with diabetes in the last 4 or 5 months when he went to a health fair thing and had his blood sugar checked. It was over 400 and they sent him straight to the hospital. He had a heart attack and a five vessel by-pass two weeks ago, and when the nurse asked him how often he checked his blood sugar, he told her, "every two or three days". He really had no clue about it. My stepmother has limited knowlege about it as well.

You could do a survey maybe as part of your project. Maybe survey people over a certain age or in different age groups and make comparisons about their knowledge of whatever topic you decide.

Another idea to do separately or in conjunction would be to create a commerical or powerpoint with just the warning signs of whatever topic you choose.

Another topic I just thought of is inhalant abuse. I worked in a middle school a few years ago as an administrator and had to deal with a situation such as that. It was sad and most people were clueless about the signs of it. I think kids also were unaware of the potential dangers of it.

Hope that helps!
