Sometimes when I am downloading updates, or checking to see if I can delete an application I come across a cabinet file. What is it, and what does it contain? why do not all applications seem to have them?

BigRez is correct - it is a file with other files in it. Microsoft uses them for installation of software (data1.cab) or updates. They should usually not be deleted because the system may refer to them from time to time when doing updates

Now I am not 100% sure but I would think that it will be the main file that u opened not the sub files inside. Hope I am correct.

I have just read Big Rez answer and that was basically although not as technical as his that I meant above.
