Good luck with installing the shower. The one piece units are supposed to be built in with the frame work. If you are placing a tub in an existing space you will probably need a two piece unit.

I would recommend calling the manufacturer's hotline or at least the place where you bought it. If the chipboard is removed and it is not supposed to be, it could weaken the shower pan. Most manufacturers list a 1-800 number for questions and problems on the packaging or in the installation manual. I believe you definitely need to contact them for their recommendation.

the board is just for shipping. It may also double as a template(the size of the shower that the frame has to fit around)

the answer about calling the manufacturer makes alot of sense..........I cant believe leaving chipboard in as abase is good practice...water WILL get in there and chipboard will rot in heartbeat......better to set it on cement or WonderBoard ( Durock) or any other tile base sheetrock product
