George C is the closest. Conventional war is a set piece battle where two enemies face each other on a battlefield such as we saw in the initial stages of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Desert Storm.
What we are seeing now with car bombs, civilian casualties, IUDs, and indiscriminate killing is considered unconventional war. Yes, using nukes is considered unconventional war also.

Picture mushroom clouds expanding at the rate of 100 m/sec. The initial rapid expansion of the fireball severely compresses the surrounding atmosphere, producing a powerful blast wave. The primary blast wave travels at approx a speed of around 30km/s, which is 100 times faster than the speed of sound.
You'll need to worry about your eyes in an unconventional war ... as the air becomes ionized and has a brilliance that is many times brighter than the sun.
You'll need to have medical resources ready to handle the millions falling out with radiation poisoning, another factor in unconventional war. Oh, i almost forgot, WMD also includes bio and chemcal warfare, both considered unconventional.
