Get the same breed but opposite sex. But get your girl spayed first.
I have 4 staffords, 2 boys & 2 girls. the boys don't get along too well but the girls (mum & daughter) are great together.
Having said that I have known of 2 girls too fight to the death!!
they say dog's fight for breeding rights & B*****s fight for breathing rights. So defiantly go for a boy.

My brother has two staff crosses and has always kept more than one bull breed dogs together. I work in a pet shop and see many people with more than one staffy and they get on great, I do think that you need another dog of similar stature as you know they enjoy a good rough and tumble so the breed you get needs to be able to withstand this. If you were to rescue a similar breed, you could possibly come up against problems as the breed is quite head strong and can become set in it's ways, however when I visited the Dogs Trust they allow you and family members to interact with the dog on separate visits until you are satisfied and decide this is the right dog for you.
If you were to decide on getting a puppy I would be surprised if you have any problems at all as the puppy will understand as it is growing that there is already an alpha in the household and the puppy would probably even look up to your existing dog and learn things from her. Whatever you decide Good luck.

reading all these answers i must have a weirdo staffie.
he loves all other dogs
& his girl-friend came round yesterday, 4 a rough & tumble.
she's also a staffy, they're well matched & will play fairly HARD.
i would suggest
u find a kind neighbour or friend 2 walk her 4 u?
invest in a tread-mill?
or buy her a play mate, ( another staffie mayb 2 much 4 u ) ensuring they meet & get on?
other options
contact ur local RSPCA 4 more advice
or heed what others have said on here.

A male staffy or bull terrier would be good as it would be able to match her energy.Don't get a female as they are dominant with their own gender and sooner or later a serious fight will occur.
Obviously the male willl need to be neutered-and hopefully she is already spayed?
Remember that playing with each other is not enough though-they will still need long walks.
If you find that tricky look into hiring a dog-walker.

yeah i agree with "done it" designing a toy that can keep the dog entertained for a while maybe the best answer for now. another dog is another problem all in itself. unless you just really want another dog. then you probably should get another one of the same breed.
1. because you will need the opposite sex so they don't fight.
2. they will end up being close to the same size and can handle each others roughness.
ball on a bungee cord, bone on a rope, or like "done it" said a hidden bone in something it can pull on. noise toys are good for self play for dogs

Thats a very hard question to answer, i have a staff and with some staff's he is fine others he's not and viser versa, and other dogs are the same it depends if the dogs like each other. Little dogs dont seem to like my dog but bigger dogs do and i have mixed my dog will all dogs i came across from a early age to back him human and dog friendly, also can you put a old tyre up or rope in the garden they have hours of fun with them and come back in and just sleep. i hope this is of some help.

Well i also ahve a three year old staffy and i know that if i bought another dog and welcomed it into our home she would get very jealous. i don't think it's a good idea, no matter how accepting your dog is, it's her home and she should be top dog. Don't know where you live but in my area we have a company called Guadian Angels who come round, play, feed, walk your pets for only £5.00 for 1 session. Why can't you get a company like that to give her a good run or play, there must be companies in your area, try lookng up in the yellow pages under, animal section?

I had a gorgeous staffy, he sadly died lasy year and miss him terribly. He had one really bad habit though, he always wanted to fight other dogs - especially other staffies.
We got advice and were told they all do not like mixing with other staffies. I can't tell you why.
You need to perhaps go to a rescue centre and they will (if you pick another dog) socialise the two together to see if they get on. You might be lucky and have a lovely dog that is good with other dogs. I somehow suspect that is will not be the case.
I think when you take your dog for a walk you will know how it gets on with others when the pass in the street. I used to have to cross the road to pass other dog walkers.
Best of luck with your pooch, i hope she find a very nice playful friend!

Staffordshire's (staffys) are VERY dominant! The reason Staffys dont get along with other staffys is that they fight to become the dominant one.. If you are to get another dog then get one that is a submissive breed like a golden retriever or australian shepherds... but i agree take your pooch in the animal shelter and have you both walk up and down the aisles... the one that he doesnt bark at and if that one doesnt bark back (agressively) then there you go get that one!! =) Take them both on walks together with one one each side and there you go, two perfect doggies! But please remember that Staffys are VERY powerful and can hurt the new doggy if provocted wrong, keep them apart if youre not around!
