To tell the difference bettween a male/female parakeet, you need to look at the cere (the area above the beak, around the nostrils). Males will have a blueish tint, females brown. Unmature parakeets will usually have a white cere. Also, the color of the cere may change if the bird is sick,or in the mood for breeding.
Hope this helps.

On parakeets the cere (where the nostrils are) will turn blue for a male and redish-brown for a female. When u want to breed them (parakeets) the female has to be at least a year and the male has to be at least 10 months. There's not exactly a way to make them breed faster. I don't know about cocktiels.....sorry.

Grey cokatiels are easy to differentiate. The males have VERY bright yellow collar around their necks and bright orange spot. Females have some yellow, but is not bright, and orange spot that is kind of muddled. However,if the male is very young it will look like female. If your cockatiel is white, then look at the underside of wings for light yellow spots. If they are present then it is a girl.Again young males are marked like females. At around 8 months the differences start becoming noticeable.

Tiels have dots under thier wings at the 3rd row of feathers, roughly 3/4 inch up from bottom. Remember under their wings only. Males have these dots half the way up, females go the entire length of the wing. Other than surgical or DNA testing this is the only way to tell.

Most male cockatiels have bright yellow heads while females have dull gray. Lutinos can't be easily sexed visually though.

I suggest you take them all off to a certified avian vet who can help you sex them (using a DNA test if necessary) and give you tips on how to convert them to a pellet diet without starving them to death, as well as how to safely breed them. Attempting to change diet without knowing what you're doing can result in them starving to death, and attempting to breed can lead to egg-binding and death, so really, don't start until you know what you're doing and aren't going to kill your whole flock.

Why don't you look on their sex organs?
