bishops stortford is on the herts/essex borders, close to junction 8 of the m11, and close to stansted airport. it is a medium sized market town with quite a few new estates gone up since mid 80's to cope with the population increase. it is close to a lot of small villages and farmland. major employers are the airport businesses, many other residents commute to london. the population is predominantly middleclass and fairly well educated, schools are pretty good too.

as it is in the commuter belt for london - about 30 mins by train to liverpool street station, house prices are fairly high, 180K for 2bed terrace house.

limited shops in the town - for shopping most people travel to lakeside, bluewater, cambridge, harlow etc there are sopme expensive boutiques, but these are mixed in with the cheap stores like peacocks, wilkos, savers etc. there is a small family run department store in the town. there are a few restaurants and cafes - these have opened in recent years, and quite a few pubs - am sure you will find one or more to your taste.

to my knowledge there is only one club - used to be the juicy duck, then was h2o's not sure what it is called now. it's ok.

it is a nice place to live, no major problems really.....

why are you thinking of moving there? work? personal reasons?
