I have a 3 yr old black lab. he is a great dog except..... Over the past two weeks when ever the children play rough and run around screaming as children and thier friends will do, he gets aroused and starts to hump anything or anybody in sight. He is a big dog over 100 lbs and I have all girls. I know to have him fixed would solve this problem but we do breed him. So my question is why is he doing this all of a sudden and what should we do to curb this behavior?

He just at the point where he is mature. He is also trying to control the girls from running around and screaming. He may think they are hurt and is trying to stop them for hurting each other. Humping is not to be excepted as a way for him to tdo this. Disciplin him at once when he does this. A fiem off with you taking the dog out of the room and have him either lay down or sit for a short period of time may help.
Fixing him will help but if he's learned to dothis action already then your the one to teach him this is not excepted in your home.

It is a Dominance issue-he sees the people around him as his pack-only dominants breed in a pack-so he believes he is alpha-the humping is a non-aggressive control method-Curb it immediately keep a spray bottle handy and squirt him before he starts-keep an eye on him around the kids in case he becomes aggressive.

You can always put him up when the kids are out playing... or have him on a leash so he cant get to them... having a 100 pound dog on any kid is bad! so keep him up since you dont want to get him neutered... You could always put him on a leash and have him stay by your side while kids are playing and anytime he starts to get anxious jerk the leash and say no or something... Male doggies do this when they have built up frustration,.. especially since its getting close to spring time! MATING SEASON is getting closer! Good luck to you and your doggy!!

he is doing this because he thinks they are tring to take his territory from him.

when ever they run around or play , move him to another room or put him outside.

I guess it could also be due to the mating season, so he gets aroused pretty easily.
