this is the order of easy to tough,
1.) bunny hill, usually colored green
2.)intermediate, usually colored blue
3.)black diamond, has one black diamond
4.)double diamond, two diamonds
for beginner, do bunny hill, then if you feel you are getting it try an intermediate. if you do good on that ask around and try to find the easy black diamond trail on the mountain. DO NOT TRY DOUBLE DIAMOND! EXPERTS ONLY!

Some areas have different ratings, but this one is the most common:

Green Circle: Easier (This is what people call "Bunny Hills")

Blue Square: Intermediate (This covers a broad range of runs)

Black Diamond: Difficult (Often very steep or bumpy)

Double Black Diamond: Extremely Difficult (Narrow and steep usually, however I was riding these by only my 3rd trip, so you may get good at em'!)

I would recommend taking a lesson to start. They can really help you out!

In the USA, ski resorts give one of three ratings to a trail

Green circle-Very easy, anyone can do it
Blue Square-A little more difficult, fi you just started skiing, you migth want to stay off
Black diamond-Most people could probably do it, but it's really made for advanced skiiers

Some resorts use a combination of 2 ratings, for example, they might have a black diamond symbol inside a blue square. That would be a difficult blue square, about half way between blue and black

It's important to remember that ratings are not comparable from resort to resort. A blue at Steamboat might be the equivalent of a black at Sunday River. If you can do blacks at one resort, it doesnt necessarily mean that you can do blacks at other resorts

The above are correct but keep in mind that these ratings also vary depending on where you are skiing. An intermediate trail at one ski area may be rated for beginners at another. The best way to enjoy your first time is to get a lesson. Your instructor will keep you out of trouble. Enjoy !!!

Beginner trails are marked with a Green Circle on the map. Intermediate trails are marked with a blue square, and advanced trails are marked with a black diamond. Expert terrain is usually marked with a double black diamond.

up in Ontario, we have colours.
Bunny hill - pure begginer - smaller than green hills
green - begginer
blue/red - intermediate
black dimond - advanced
double black dimaond - crazy hard.
if its your first time, stick to the bunny hills and gree, you might even make the blue as the day goes by and your learning ability
