I want to keep the car for 2-3 years and have a baby arriving in August. I think a diesel would be best but I don't want a Mondeo or a Focus as by my reckoning the day I buy one of these is the day I am waiting to die. The dream is over. What shall I get. Any ideas?

The Audi A6 1.9 TDI is an excellant choice and will see you the three years with out problem. Good quality safe, reliable, economic and good looking what can we say. You also have a boot that can take a buggy and the shopping which is a necessity.

Take the Scooby. Much nicer to drive, 4x4 handling, much rarer, & since you can't buy a Diesel one, it won't sound like a skeleton masturbating in a filing cabinet every morning when you start it up.
P.S. Audi 'reliability' is a myth. Subaru do much better in Top Gear survey.

Subaru? £350 for a window winder motor and three months wait for a set of rear carpets? And too few about to get discount or secondhand bits. No contest.
