The mind is more then the brain, and the life of a person is more than his body.
Your spirit, which is the real you, lives in your body...along with your soul..which is your mind, your will, and your emotions.
The brain (that you are speaking of) and the physical body will decay, but the Soul and the Spirit will carry on..to eternal life or judgement.

Turning to God's word we are told that when we are in heaven, we will not remember the bad things. We will have memories of those that we love who are destined to come to heaven, but those who are not, we will remember no more.
If one reads Revelation you will see that God will recreate the earth, and the old will pass away, Ezekiel talks about how we the inhabitants of the new heaven on earth, will not remember this life. God has the ability to change our likeness in the clouds in a twinkling of an eye ( the rapture) It isn't hard for Him to create in us souls that retain memory.
The brain is a mystery but the mind, something that can live without the brain is still a mystery and perhaps it's apart of our souls.
Our life after this one will be a far better one, and God tells us not to worry. We will want for nothing and we will live differently but it won't be anything like we could even fathom in our minds.
Lately I have been challenging myself when it comes to needs or wants. Do I need that thing in the store, or do I want it. I remind myself, "you can't take it with you" and then I am reminded that this item that I want won't exist in the life where it really counts, so I choose to save my money that day and enjoy the life I have now and appreciate it for it's worth.
It sounds like you may find benefit from doing a scriptural study to ease your mind about this. If you ever want to, I'd be happy to help.
Have a good day.

Before life we didn't have time to formulate memories yet.
My speculation is I believe that knowledge is kept rather than memories. Memory is like a picture that tells a story, but knowledge is that story. So the question is where is knowledge located?
I believe knowledge is located in the heart, I feel it that way, I think the mind can rest in the heart. The heart is a middle area of the body, between stomach and head, so it is a natural middle. I believe the heart is a metaphor that means whole or soul of a person. And finally the heart keeps us alive regardless of our conscious choice to be alive. I can't just shut down my heart.
So what happens to this knowledge when we die? I believe our will goes into our heart then our consciousness. From there we go onto whatever is next, be it another life, an eternity of non-bodily existent, or something different altogether. To simplify it, I believe we become that principle of life. We don't really have a body or senses, but we have a life in the fact that there is a principle of life right now, so it's like when we die we become that.
Meditation lets you experience that will as it goes into the heart. It's like a feeling, and you can see it happening through your mind's vision. After the will goes into the heart, I follow it. I am my consciousness. I am conscious, and so I am the principle of consciousness. I believe that this principle manifests the world in order to perceive itself, just as I experience things because those things teach me about myself and about being human. And finally I believe the consciousness has a personal connection to the will, so when someone says, "follow your heart," what they mean I think is that there is a natural tendency for us to follow our spiritual will that flows through the heart, so all we have to do is accept that rather than reject it. It's a beautiful thing.

"I would love to believe that when I die I will live again, that some thinking, feeling, remembering part of me will continue. But much as I want to believe that, and despite the ancient and worldwide cultural traditions that assert an afterlife, I know of nothing to suggest that it is more than wishful thinking." —Carl Sagan
"To believe that consciousness can survive the wreck of the brain is like believing that 70 mph can survive the wreck of the car." —Frank Zindler
All we have is someone's word. If you point to the Bible we only have someone's word on that, too. Lots of people have promised us life after death, but absolutely no one has presented any evidence.

Let me assure you that the Bible teaches the life we live after we die will be real—just as real as this life, if not more so. We won't be in a state of dreamlike consciousness, but we will fully exist in body, mind and soul.
The pattern for this is Jesus Himself. When Jesus died on the cross and was laid in a tomb, His physical body was completely and absolutely dead. But He came back to life by the power of God—and when He did, He had a different type of body, without the limitations it once had. His resurrected body wasn't an illusion; it was a glorious and immortal body that was just as real as His earthly body had been.
And someday, if we know Christ, we too will be given new bodies—bodies like Christ's resurrected body. The Bible says, "So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable" (1 Corinthians 15:42). Our bodies in heaven will be real, and so will our whole existence. Only in this way will we be able to serve God.
But the real question is this: Are you ready for that day? Do you know—really know—that if you were to die tonight, you would go to be with Christ in heaven forever? You can know, by confessing your sins and your need of Christ, and trusting Him alone for your salvation. Salvation is real—and it can be yours by putting your faith and trust in Jesus Christ today.

When we die, our brains die and 'we' go out of existence. It is possible that our memories might be stored in our genes, and this might account for beliefs in reincarnation or god-beliefs. Awesome! You might be carrying memories of your foreparents in your genes! And only under certain circumstances - stress, crisis - might they emerge! Science might prove it later.

The Bible tells us that we will be judged by our actions and deeds here on earth. No one is worthy to enter heaven, except through Jesus Christ. That being said, since we will be judged on our actions, then of course, we will remember our life here on earth.
