I've just bought a Nikon F90X, after switching on, I have a flashing
"FE E" on the digital display, this appears to be preventing the film from loading, and the shutter from firing...anyone have any ideas what this is, and how to cure it?

You have to set the aperture on the lens to its smallest, usually marked in orange on the lens barrell. (Smallest aperture is the biggest number, f22 for example.)

If the camera is in Program auto set the lens to its smallest aperture ( highest number), or take it out of Program auto.
If a speed light is attached put it into TTL mode.
