It depends what you want.

If you are talking about out doors, then get a bike that suits the kind of ride you enjoy; mountain, road, city transport, etc.

Once you decide what you want it for, then you can chose among the many brands and alternatives. The most important thing is that the bike you by should fit you!
Any good bike store will help you with this.

If riding indoors is your thing, I would consider one of the following:

Using "rollers" or a similar bike resistance machine to be able to pedal indoors. You can use the same bike your ride outdoors, which is an added benefit.

A spinning bike by far is the best choice for me when we talk about a fix bike.

if you want a good workout and can't bycicle outdoors go for the spinning bycicle. I've been doing triathlon for 7 years, and whenever i can't ride outside i go for the spinning cycling which is one of the best exercises there are, builds stamina and conditions your body.
