the best way to get anybodys trust back when you've made a mistake is to take responsibility for it and do the next right thing. you cant get thier trust and forgiveness by begging for it, you have to prove to them that you deserve it. try staying home more and helping around the house. prove you are learning from your mistake and are making a concious effort to mature and make things right. actions speak louder than words.

The fact that you are the only child makes this situation a little harder than it should be. In families with more children, parents do not focus / concentrate as much on one person as they do when it is only one child. So I can see how you are feeling guilty about this.

You do not say what items were found in your room. If porn magazines / similar were found, then I'd say your parents are over reaccting, and they need to get over it. If it was something more serious like drugs, stolen items, etc. then as a parent I would need time to gather my thoughts, etc.

You don't state your age or what was found but again if it was something that would suggest that you are having sex and you are under 18, your parents might just be worried, sad, embarrassed, etc.

Like I said, I do not know the details of how you feel you let them down / broke their trust. Maybe they are not even looking for an apology. Maybe they just need to regain their feelings, thoughts, etc.

Don't give up.... continue to try and talk to them. First of all... timing is very important ... don't do it when there are a million things to do .... don't do it when it is very hectic / busy. Wait until the household is calm, when both parents are together and when you foresee little interruptions. Then proceed by telling them that it is important that you discuss this matter and bring it out in the open so that you guys can move on with your lives. If it were a matter that THEY needed to address it would be done immediately right? so a member of the family, your issues are as valid as theirs. Continue by saying that you are NOW aware of the consequences as a result to what you did (fill in the blanks), but that this incident will serve as a learning tool, you will learn from your mistake. Tell them that we all make mistakes and you will not repeat it again. If need be apologize (but only if it is sincere) and let them know that your intentions were never to let them down.

~ good luck!

Tell them you'll change your ways & do. It will take time for your parents to forgive you but they will. When a child breaks their parents heart for whatever reason is really hurts. Time is the best healer....Your parents love you that's why they got upset & are not speaking to you right now. Parents love unconditionally. I know because Iam a parent. Prove to them & to yourself that you can make a difference with any bad habits you may have. If its drugs your doing....stop....that is not the right road to be traveling on.....drugs will only lead you into the wrong direction . Your parents want what's best for you....understand that....Drugs is not the answer. Change.....

A lot of good answers here. Just keep in mind that it won't be a special excursion or uncommon act that will regain their trust. It will be lots of little things that you do over a period of time that will show them your true intentions. Be patient, trust isn't cheap. You'll all grow from your efforts.

You can only slowly regain their trust. You have to obey them and respect them. You slowly gain more and more and respect.
