That would really depend on your employer. Ask your boss or a (reliable) co-worker what the policy is.

The real question is 'was the sickness due to anything at your workplace?"...........IF so, you can get workman's comp if you stay off work 3 days or more. Talk to your supervisor, and ask what the 'rules' are regarding sickness and not coming to work, if this is not a work related illness. I would take a doctor's note along with me, if I just had been ill for 5 days, and I had called into work everyday, as employers want you to do. Be sure you DO contact your workplace, when you know you are not going to be at work. If you do not, you may lose your job.

I would think yes. If you've been sick for 5 days, hopefully you have seen a doctor, let them know you need an excuse. It is always better to give your employer an excuse for any illness that causes mixed work, or they can percieve it as just missed work and this is not good for you if they decide to fire you, you have no claim then against them in unemployment.

Most company's have a policy book stating how many days you are off vs whether or not you need a doctor's slip. Most policies I have seen written is 3 days. You really don't need a doctor's excuse but rather what your illness is and if it restricts you from doing certain things you do at work.

Yeah. In my company, if I don't have a reason to be off work for more than 3 days, they can fire me - even if I report in. Check with your Personnel/Human Resources department for company policy.
