For those of you Christians out there, I am interested to know how you believe the story of Noah's ark worked out. Did the ark actually contain 2 of every single species on the surface of the Earth? How did Noah create such an enormous vessel, surely it would have to have been many times larger than even the largest ships afloat today?
Also - where did all the water that covered the Earth go? Is this explained by God creating then destroying all that water? And surely with all that rainwater the seas would be too diluted for saltwater fish to survive.
I am interested in your opinions - not trying to prove the story wrong.

Ok so I read the relevent passage in the Bible and it says; "The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits" - genesis 6:15. That's about half the size of the USS enterprise (the aircraft carrier) yet this was built of wood and pitch. How was this done? Did God hold it together and provide Noah with all the materials needed?

They have actually taken some of the wood from the Ark when it was found in the 1950's by a french explorer. There are many sightings from reliable Historical Figures. From Hannibal, Napolean, to Jet fighter Pilots. It didn't need every kind, e.g. all of the breeds of todays dogs come from wolves. The gene pool allows for adaptations among kinds of animals. No body has witnessed any animal giving birth of a different kind of animal. God instilled certain limits on how far something can go. The Ark can be compared to a 4 story apartment complex one city block square. It was massive, and had plenty of room for which God designed it. The earth was relatively flat at that time. There weren't any oceans. Much of the earth was covered with lush, green vegetation. The Continental Shelf is the original beach line. The oceans were pure water. The rain water runs off of the ground and the sediments all go into the ocean. The oceans are 3% salt. If the earth is billions of years old, why isn't theremore salt and sediments at the bottom of the ocean? As the seas got saltier, the creatures were able to adapt. www.drdino has information on this subject. It is called the Hovind theory. He uses explainable science to blast evolution off of the map!! Most of the watercame from underneath the earth. There is still plenty of water ther in subterrainian water chambers. There is so much more to tell you. It all can be logically proven with science.

I watched a programme on tv about this. People actially found evedence of the flood. It wasnt actually the whole entire world. It was the people who lived in that time's are....around the red sea. It says the world because in that time, people didnt travel far, so their little are that they lived in was their whole world.
there was like a tidal wave or a big flood from the ocean, which flooded a whole are where there were houses and people who lived there. I think...cos i watched this documentary a while ago, so i cant remember all of it....that what is left of the flood is the red sea or the dead sea or something like that. They found evedence of civilisation at the bottom of it when they went down with submatines.
So that is how they proved that the story of the ark really happend. If you go on the internet, im sure ull find it....i think it might have been a national geographyc documentary or a discovery channel.
As for the animals two by two, again, only the animals in that area, which wasnt all the animals in the whole world, so it is possible.
Anything is possible when it comes to God tho, He is more powerful than anyone can every prove.

1. The dimensions of the ark easily permit what it contained, with room to spare. I suppose Noah had help inthe building - it may have taken many years to build, as well.
2. A study published by Canadian Broadcasting Corporation showed that the proportional dimensions of the ark had been reproduced in a much smaller vessel, and had been found to be the most perfect build as regards stability. Horrible for mobility (for going anywhere) but perfect for stability. In other words, the people on the ark didn't need to get sea-sick!
3. Don't you know that the earth is conisidered to be the Blue Planet? The majority of the earth's surface is covered with water. Consider the water table not oto far beneath the eath's surface today. The question of where the water went doesn't seem to be too difficult to me.
4. Don't salt water fish swim up our great fresh water rivers? I know the salmon do.
5. The fact that there is a flood story in most regions of the world, gives credence to the idea of a universal flood. In the varying flood stories, there is always a family that is saved.

That whole STORY is ludicrous and impossible. Just one point- The earth is a closed system- if all that water once covered the entire earth, it would still be found on earth- under the surface, on the surface, or in the atmosphere. I could not have just disappeared-and yet there's no trace of water of that amount. Think, people.
Don't you just love it when people who are not intelligent enough to reason things out for themselves suggest you "go read the Bible" for an explanation? If he wanted to read the Bible he would, but he's here at YA, so obviously he wants to know what YA thinks.

even as Noah become progression the ark, the pyramids were being outfitted. Noah become born year 1056, it truly is 3010 BCE, even as he's age 400, that is 2610 BCE, at age 502, 2508 BCE, Shem is born. So in case you examine the progression of the pyramids also they're in that element period. As for the animals, that turned right into a job for God and not in any respect Noah. How would I take it, if I brought about humankind to have existence and an section to stay it, similar with angels, and for 669 years there become violence earth huge with angels having produced giants via the ladies from mankind and those ought to no longer reproduce? Gen.6;2,4. this style of a large number needs a answer, i imagine ending the existence sustainig earth, with permitting the water placed up contained in the firmament to fall decrease back to earth become one solid thanks to do it.

If you think about it is possible until you get to the flood part, but remember the Ark was rested on a hill after the storm (a few hundred feet up). So think about it, all the excess flowed south and north to make the ice caps. Elogical; I know. I really don't believe in this one, I am a very devout Roman Catholic but some stories in the Bible sound like bubkus. So.... uhmm lets call this story PLAUSIBLE, maybe PHEASIBLE. *Don't hate me for the Mythbusters add on.

Noah's ark is a myth. The whole story makes no sense.
Yes the bible makes little sense. I mean if god is all powerful why did he have to ask Noah to build a boat to save some animals and why did he have to drown them. All god would have had to do was click his fingers or twiddle his nose, or whatever he does, and "poof" within a second everything would have been as god wanted it.

I was told the Noah's ark story when I was a child and even then it sounded impossible. If Noah really could gather up every animal on earth, then Santa Claus really can deliver all the presents on Christmas eve.

Most major religions contain a flood story, so the accuracy of the Noah account is suspect.
