I agree with you. People are getting ruder by the day. It's worse at Christmas, especially in M&S. I'm also surprised by the lack of manners in many children these days. I have had to get out of their way so many times and they just look you straight in the eye with a sort of arrogance I'm quite frankly shocked at. I have heard it's worse in the South East than anywhere else though. I live in Kent and I can tell you, the people in my town are so horrible sometimes. It's a great shame and it sets such a BAD example for our children. No wonder there are all these yobs hanging around everywhere. It's because of parents not having basic manners.
Well done to you though. You should be so proud of your daughter, she sounds lovely!!

I think it is very bad manners.
If I hold the door open for someone and they do not say "Thank-you" I say very loudly "That's quite alright" and they mostly seem to get the message :-)
Continue to set a good example for your daughter but explain to her that some people do not have good manners so it is nice to show them what good manners are!!!!

No, some people are just ignorant, especially when it does come to children. I encourage both mine, 10 & 6, to be polite at all times (thankfully they are up to now!)
I tend to say THANKYOU in a very loud voice on their behalf. Some then do say it, but there are those who just keep walking.....
Society I'm afraid.

lets be truth full it seems as you go older you just seem to forget your manners you feel those younger than you must give respect and then you even hate it when they disrespect you. i have done a research on this thing and i must tell you there is no thank you in an old persons dictionary.

I agree. People are so rude these days. That same situation has happened to me before. I am so sick of it. People in customer service are rude too. I wish there was something we could do about it. Your daughter did a polite thing and these adults should have know to say Thank you.

I would compliment her. But to be honest, some people are afraid to speak to children these days, and still others are complete prats.
I think a smile and nod, if nothing else, is appropriate, and to the mum as well! You are doing a great job.

My trick is, when people don't say thankyou I say very loudly "YOU"RE WELCOME" Then they get embarrassed and realise they have done something wrong
