I absolutely hate strep throat, I wish that you feel better. Here are some home treatment tips you can use in addition to your antibiotics:

1. Drink plenty of fluids. If you like tea, try some that are specially made to aide in colds. Also if you have a humidifier, try to keep the air moist in order to stop your throat from drying out.

2. Take additional over the counter medications such as ibuprofen and such to aide in relieving the pain and swelling.

3. Kick back and rest. Your body is worn out and it is telling you something. Sleep. Relax and do not put too much stress on your body while you are getting better.

Lastly, until you have been on the meds for about 48, try to avoid contact with people as much as possible. Try not to sneeze or cough on anyone. Also wash your hands constantly and dispose of any tissues you use asap. Lastly, as soon as you are no longer contagious, replace your toothbrush. We wouldn't want to see you re-infect yourself!!!!

Strep throat is a throat infection caused by streptococcus bacteria. It is characterized by sore throat, fever, and enlarged lymph nodes in the neck – symptoms are sore throat, fever, inflammation of the tonsils etc. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. You can find some good home remedies at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html - You may choose to take in antibiotics as an extreme measure.

First, get the antibiotic in you and that should take a day or two before it kicks in and you start feeling better. I would take ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil) for the pain and drink lots of fluids hot or cold. I always liked hot better. Cloroseptic makes a spray that kills the soreness in your throat or try garling with salt water. Just rest and in a couple days you will be back to new. Take Care.

Lozenges with some anesthetic in them can help. Strepsils?
