Bayer aspirin is safe to give your dog but it has to be given by weight and for no more than 3 days in a row.
My german shepherd also has arthritis and I give him aspirin but only when he seems in really bad pain.Vet says 2 aspirin 3x a day for 3 days is fine for him.He weighs 115#.I've never had to dose him that long or that much tho.
When he seems in pain I break out the heating pad and hold it on the areas I know are bothering him for about 10 minutes with the pad set on medium.Afterward I massage the area and bend and flex the joints for 10 or 15 minutes to help get the blood flowing thru it.I do this 3x a day.Usually the next day there's noticeable improvement.
Remember that cold and damp weather will make the arthritis act up.And walking your dog on concrete is hard on his joints so try to keep him off it as much as possible. Also,no matter how bad you feel for doing it get your dog up and walk him daily regardless of how much pain he seems to be in.The longer you leave him be to recover on his own the more the joints will stiffen causing more pain.
You're not going to try a 5 mile run.Just a short walk letting him pick his pace.If he needs to rest then let him and return home when he's ready to get up again. The next walk try to go a little farther.
When the weather is warm I've noticed an ice pack seems appreciated too.And if you can and he will, take him swimming as much as possible. The water will hold his weight off the joints while he exercises.

You absolutely need to check with your veterinarian for doseage of any medications. Aspirin can have serious side effects in dogs like prolonged bleeding times, stomach ulcers, bleeding into the intestines, and perforated intestines. Talk to your vet as soon as possible, and do NOT give any more aspirin until you get proper direction from your vet. It can also make the side effects of any other medication worse, so make sure you tell your vet about every medication (even if it's just a supplement) you give your dog, not just the aspirin!!!

My poor departed Max suffered from the same problems. We used Joeseph Baby Asprin, per our vets advise. The flavor appealed to him and he would willing take it three/four times a day.
Consult your vet regarding other problems with the pup. I've had two Schnauzer's and the onset of this is generally not a good thing. These dogs refuse to give-up on life and live to be thirteen to twenty years. Make her as comfortable as you can.
God Bless

If your vet has approved your giving her asprin then yes it's ok.
If not and you are doing it on your own then NO.
Asprin can be very hard on dogs stomach and cause ulcers.
I'd recomend that IF your vet has said ok then you give it every day not just when you see her having difficulty. It takes a while for the asprin to work. Then I'd watch her very carefully to make sure the asprin isn't causing any stomach problems.

It never hurt our dog.....As he got older he needed something. Our vet recommended it to us. Never hurt him...Although, I would always recommend you talk to your vet as well....You have a small dog. Ours was a larger breed. It might make a difference far as giving a whole or a half of an aspirin.

They do have dog aspirin and I got mine at Petco. It's made specifically for them in the right amount. Do not put him on Rimadyl for any amount of long term, it has alot of bad side affects. Mine has arthiritis in his right back hip and also give him glucosomine with msm, it will help his joints. Hope this helps!!

Hi I have a lab with a lot of problems with his hind legs and his front shoulder and my vet recommended Ascriptin . It is an aspirin buffered with Maalox for the stomach. You can get it anywhere as it is for humans. It helps him too. I would give her a whole one. I give my lab 2 for his of course he is 119 pounds.Ask your vet to make sure of the dosage though
Good luck

the aspirin wont hurt her.
I'm guessing she is rather old. So with that said, Just ease the pain the best you can for her comfort.
I do suggest consulting a vet though

It is common for vets to prescribe aspirin for dogs. You should not do it unless a vet prescribes it and only at the dosage the vet prescribes.
