It's not water that they hate, it's the feeling of being wet.
BUT not all cats dislike being wet, some don't mind it at all.
It just depends on the cat.

Depends on the cat.
My Mainecoon cat, Fred ,loved water but I read that particular species of cat does. Fred would go out in the rain and play in puddles. I have watched Bengal tigers swim in a pool so I just think its a preference for certain cats. Some just don't like getting their paws wet ;-)

I think its how their introduced to water. My cat loves the water, He sits outside the shower wen im showering, and used to sit rite by the bath when i was having a bath, he has no problem with the water, and when its really hot i fill my dog's bath with cool water and put him into cool him down. I do the same to my dog who also loves the water. I guess if you try to force them to do something they don't like they will neva do it again, but if you teach them to trust they know its safe.

Honestly there is no real reason. Cats who are exposed to water when they are kittens and during their lifetime may enjoy an occasional swim or bath.

Cats are naturally stubborn and spoiled animals, so that could be part of the problem. If they dont like it, dont force them. What I find weird is that they will drink it and stuff, but they dont like to be submerged in it...

Because they can smell the chemicals in tap water which we cannot, that's why they drink from puddles and stuff. Hope I helped.
