has been taken out of context. But in every sermon I ever witnessed in my own evangelical church (before I found the light and became an atheist) and on TV has done precisely this. It's always a magical, mesmerizing calvalcade of sliced and diced Bible verses.

I am a Christian, but I agree. The Bible takes on an entirely new light when you use it in it's entirety.

True.

The fact is that the bible is not a book, but dozens of books written by dozens of different authors at different times and places in history. It's hardly surprising that you can find blatantly contradictory texts, in spite of the imbecile orthodox assertion that the whole thing was taken down from dictation by the Holy Spirit.

For somebody to say "I am a Christian and if any Bible verse is being used against us, then it is being used out of context" only demonstrates the bigoted POV of the "religious" person. The "context" here mentioned is, of course, the specific spin put on the text by her own particular sect of Christianity. The fact that various Christian cults contend with each other over fundamental meaning emphasizes this subjectivity of interpretation.

The bible is lengthy and diffuse enough to function as an "ink blot test," and that's exactly how it works in practice. People find what they want to find. (It's a common practice to insert one's finger at random among the pages and locate a verse to assist with a given problem; the fact that the results often seem "miraculously" appropriate speaks more to human psychology than the divinitory properties of the book.) Not to say the original authors didn't intend specific meanings, the nature of which can most intelligently be ascertained through legitimate research and scholarship; but precious few Christian "ministers" are honest, responsible, impartial scholars. Plainly, they have an axe to grind.

If a verse is not used in it's entirety, then it will not give the correct message..

Example: Madonna once said( in her younger days) "Ye who are without sin , cast the first stone"
BUT what she so eloquently forgot to add was the verse right below this one " Go and sin no more:

We cannot take a verse and call it whatever we want .. You have to use the entire message..

This is what causes the problems ...

Hope this helped :)

They might take a passage of scripture to preach on, but its not twisted around and made to say something different then it does.
We get scripture here from unbelievers that, if they read the sentence before or after it, they would clearly understand. Plus, the scriptures given are used for the sole purpose to argue, not Tully to understand anything.

Look. The guy who said "A text without a context is nothing but a pretext" was right on.

Sure, some Christians take them out of context. But isn't your generalization meant to tear down Christians, who don't do it half or even a quarter as often as the Bible-ignorant do? So if taking it out of context makes Christians dirt, what are the atheists and others who party down taking the whole thing out of context? -- über dirt?

I agree with uncle thesis. You're confusing to different things here. I am a Christian and if any Bible verse is being used against us, then it is being used out of context.

I still haven't seen you use a verse properly, or in context. You must not have picked up anything at these church meetings you went to. Maybe it is better that you left.

You dont validate a prejudice, that is what that is. He does no longer opt for all of us to be solid away and lost. He would tell them that they are loved & to quit doing what you're doing as a thanks to be kept. certain, you're to love your neighbor & manage others as you want to be dealt with, yet God not in any respect suggested that you need to proceed to stay a sinfull existence. I belive the precise words are "bypass in peace & sin no extra." it truly is the area that some overlook (on each and each fringe of the arguement). he's right here for us to be forgiven. Nowhere do you hit upon him declaring to "save on doing what you're doing, its ok & dont enable all of us inform you diverse!" that is meant in case you dont comprehend or who shun the regulation of God to provide them a danger to get accurate. Gays are not any more the merely element that Bible says is faulty. certain a lot of people use a similar passage to apply antagonistic to gays, yet you need to submit to in ideas there are different sexual sins that are reported besides homosexuality. That appears the single which all of us seems to spotlight. those that say it isn't a sin, likely both belong to that type, or opt for all of us to love them & style of look over it. church homes protected. in the journey that they say that that is okay for them to do it, bam! new individuals coming in. yet when it truly is the single it truly is over appeared, why no longer over look all of them? Why cant I sleep with my brother, sister, mom, father, nephew, niece, grandmother, aunt, daughter, cousin, or puppy? All of those are reported also! in case you opt for to provide immunity to one, you need to do it for all. I advise you do opt for to do what's honest, accurate? & that would manke all of us chuffed, b/c they could do in spite of they opt for with out guidelines. Why quit there? What if i elect to kill someone? If i imagine that is okay, then why cant I? i visit justify it any way you opt for. who're you & the court docket gadget to assert that I cant do it if i imagine I easily have the right to?

Your experience has been with christendom.
They are a counterfeit, hypocritical abomination!
You are invited to look into Christianity.
There is a huge difference.
