You should do between 20 and 30 mins of cardio daily, no less, no more, at your target heart rate. Under 15 minutes does nothing for you, over 30 minutes could start to burn up muscle instead of fat. W oundered the same thing, I was doing 50 minutes daily and not loosing any weight, and i consulted with a few personal trainers, and that is what all of them told me. Good luck!

Get the bifocals adusted, 20 minutes is MINIMAL, not optimal. It takes me 20 minutes to get my heartrate where I want it to START the hard part of my workouts.
Go as long as you can find time for, more is better. There is no maximum, other than making time to eat and sleep.
----
Edit: As long as you have no physical or cardiac issues to allow for, there is no max. I go as much as 20 hours a week in season, rarely less than 10 (I'm 54). I know guys as old as 80 that workout similarly.
What's optimum? Depends on what you're training for. Peaking for a specific event is a complicated process. Trust me, it invlolves a whole bunch more than 20 minutes.

Definitely depends on the person.
Too much cardio can be harmful to some, and too little can effect the person as well.
If you feel like you can go longer after 20 minutes of whatever intensity, then I don't see any harm in that. However, if you feel like you can't go on, or you're going to pass out, stop!

I think 20 minutes is the minimum that will get your blood moving at the proper levels.
If you are looking to be a distance runner then, like 40 - 50 minutes.
If you want to burn some fat, like 20 - 30.

I think it all depends on several things such as your current condition. Are you over weight a little or a lot? What do you want to accomplish? Your overall health.
Basicly you need to workout long enough and with enough intensity to burn stored fat. Here is a good article you may want to read.

I think the surgeon general recommends 30 minutes of exercise today, if you're going for a healthy heart. And more couldn't hurt you, unless it HURTS, like the person above said.

At least 20 minutes at your target heart rate. You can use this website to calculate your target here: www.americanheart.org.
