First off, I am 13. Okay, so sometimes when I do my homework, I have sudden urges to do jumping jacks, right? SO my mom says, "X, I think you have ADD*." And so I say, "Can you take me to the doctor to check?" and she says, "You don't have ADD." and it goes on and on and it is driving me crazy, so can you tell me what to do?

There are many more things I do other than jumping jacks, that is just the most common distraction.

And I have acted like this throughout life.

Maybe you're like me and get bored and distracted very easily. For example, I use this site whilst I'm working - do some work, answer a question, do work, answer question etc.

If you're concerned you should speak to a doctor, these links may help you...

Not odd at all. I'm 54, and I go nuts if I go more than a day without a really hard workout. Your body is telling you to be active. Go out for a sport. You'll find it a lot easier to sit and study and go to sleep at a decent hour if your body is physically thrashed.

All kids need a couple hours a day of hard physical exercise to take the edge off.

Its possible you do have ADD, but following my suggestion will make it better not worse. Worth a try.

The only way to find out is by getting checked at the doctor's. However, it's very unlikely that you have it, seeing as I think of everything BUT homework when I'm trying to finish mine.lol I think it's just so boring that we distract ourselves on purpose! Either way, I would get checked just to rule out the possibility! Good luck!!

its your brain's way of trying to balance out a mental task with a physical one. Try going for a brisk walk or a jog then sit down and do your homework. I felt the same way sometimes when I was that age and what helped me was to do my homework standing up.

I see nothing wrong with doing the jumping jacks. It's a break from your studies and good for you.

You do not have ADD. You didnt have it when you were little. Its also impossible to get ADD after you were born. People are either born with it, or will never get it. But sometimes it may appear you fo have it. But you really dont have it.

Talk with a school counselor who could perhaps persuade your Mom to have you evaluated. The school psychologist can also test you for ADD/ADHD if he/she feels it is warranted.
