I went to the tax center on post this year, and they told me we needed to put our current address. We have moved since January 1st, and I assumed that they would want the address where we lived during the tax year, but they said they needed a current address. They use the address to get in touch with you if anything is wrong with your returns, so they will need to know where you currently reside and receive mail.

When we file our state taxes, they file his return in his Home Of Record state, and mine in the state we reside in. Because I am not a military member, they do not consider me a resident of his HOR, like he is.They also told me that he can change his HOR to any state he wants - which is nice because some states (like Tennessee) don't charge any state income tax.

When in doubt, your military installation may have a free tax service that you can use. They can answer questions specific to military situations.

depends. address for what purpose? most states do not require filing of taxes for military personnel who maintain a HOR elsewhere. BUT spouses who earn money in that state still have to file, regardless of where their HOR is. Additionally, some states also require you to file taxes on money earned outside the state if you maintain a HOR there.

The present address is required. Where you reside at the time of filing.

You always maintain your home of record. Also, you may want to inquire into finding out if your state exempts you from taxes. Example...Oregon is tax exempt if you are in the military or have been out of state for particular amount of time.
