I have been married to my husband for 10 years happily so far. But he has been suffering from diabetes for years. We do not have a child. I also don't have close relationship with my mother in law and his younger sister. Though I am living an independent life now, I am worried about my future at times when I think of my husband's health condition.

If you are worried about a social life if your husband should pass away, then now is the time to develop friendships that would be a comfort at that time. Join a group that interests you.

If you are worried about financial issues, you should talk to your husband about it now. If you are not familiar with what bills need to be paid -and when --find out. Ask about any insurance policies and where to find them if they are needed. Ask him if he has a will and where to find it --if either of you do not have one, this is a good time to go to a lawyer and write one.

If your husband's diabetes is under good control, he should be fine. If it is not, urge him to take medications as directed and watch his diet --for your sake as well as his.

Enjoy life now. Don't spend too much time worrying about the future --it will get here soon enough. Do what you can to prepare for it --and then STOP WORRYING ABOUT IT!

If you're talking about financially you should go see a financial advisor...don't wait until after the fact.

If you're talking about emotionally.....there's nothing you can do to prepare yourself. If you have a close friend or close family member they will be there for you.

***but don't live in the future...enjoy your husband now so that you will have wonderful memories.
