hon it all depends on her taste.
LOL the old saying the bigger the better may apply to some girls but if you want to give her that over the top wedding ring then I would go with a simple engagement band. Or you could do the opposite.
Here is an idea for one
a gold band with baguette (pronounced bag ette) shaped diamonds all around it
or
a traditional gold band with a diamond in a tiffany setting
mine looked like a yellow and white gold rope around my finger with a tiffany set diamond

Unless you know your girlfriend would like like something different you should stick to a classic diamond. A single stone that is round cut or maybe princess. I wouldn't get a heart shape or a diamond shape unless you know she would like that. You should stick with gold unless you know she likes silver. White gold or platinum is also nice if she likes silver and you can afford it.
Your finances are going to determine your stone size. I think the minimum should be a 1/4 or 1/3 carat, better quality will be more expensive. If you are going to go for a larger diamond I wouldn't go for more than 1 carat. If you want something larger or flashier you should let her pick it out.
Lastly you should shop around to find the best prices. Some places are very pricey and you pay more than its worth. Make sure the jeweler knows what they're talking about so you know your getting a good diamond for your money.

Something new is Titanium rings. You know it would be nice to take her with you to buy the ring. You go to the jewelers ahead of time and tell them your price range, and they only show you the rings in that range. She will have to wear it a long time, and it would be nice if she helped pick it out. My husband to be, then put the rings in his breast pocket, did not give it to me right then. He waited until we were standing in a special place of ours, and gave it to me when a beautiful sunset lit up the sky. He had brought a picnic basket along, and we had chilled wine and sandwiches. It was very romantic. and I always remember that sunset and how he looked, many years later.

Let her choose it because no matter what you get, you will always get the wrong thing. If you pick the platinum solitaire Tiffany six-prong setting with a blue brilliant cut diamond the size of a water buffalo in it, she will have wanted the 3 stone emerald cut diamond ensemble in a white gold setting. And vice versa.

There is a lot of variation to engagemant rings, so you would need to know a bit more about what styles she is into. I would recomend taking a close friend of hers (that can keep the secret) with you when you go shopping as she would probably have the best idea of what she likes.
Hope this helps.

Try to get something she likes. Doesn't matter how much you spend or don't spend, what matters is that you give it from your heart. If you talk to friends or relatives they may let the cat out of the bag and then it won't be a surprise. Good luck and hope she says Yes!

It's all about her. You have to know what style of jewelry she's into. Some women prefer white gold, some yellow. Some prefer large diamonds, some don't care. What type of girl do you date? I did not care what my ring looked like, I'm just proud to be married to him.

depends on how much you can spend. Princess cut Solitares are beautiful. The more carats the dearer they are. If she wears silver jewelly then go for white gold otherwise go for yellow gold.
