I watched when we were kings and its was a great film. But im wondering why there wasnt a rematch between foreman and ali? Did george want a rematch, or were there other factors at play?

because foreman would have killed him ... Ali got all the perks of a champion big ring lose ropes despite being the challenger...he was allowed to grab behind the neck and hold all night.foreman should have backed off and forced ali out of the rope a dope( it was then and is still illegal for a fighter to lean outside the ring to avoid punches yet ali was allowed to do so all night).I do give credit to ali for getting into foremans head before the fight.I was for ali that night but hindsight has taught me that foreman was done an injustice...he was treated as if he were the challenger rather than champion before the fight and in the ring.if they fought again, foreman would have probably made ali fight and it would have been a short night for ali.

After Foreman lost the title to Ali in August 1974, Foreman took 19 months off before he fought Ron Lyle and then afterward hehad his 2nd fight of Frazier. What happened was that George ran into Jimmy Young, a good defensive fighter and he lost to him in Puerto Rico. It was stated in that fight that Foreman would have beaten Young and then a rematch with Norton he would have had his rematch with Ali but that did not happen and George went into retirement and he stated he had a calling from the Lord to become a minister.

In a rematch, Ali would have gotten killed! After the first fight, he couldn't lift his arms for 2 weeks because of the beating be took. Ali wasn't a fool, he didn't want to get into the ring with an angry George Foreman!

No Santana - Foreman fought 6 more times after the fight with Ali, finally retiring in 1977 after his fight with Jimmy Young.
It was after that fight that Foreman had his religious epiphany that sent him into a 10 year hiatus from boxing.
The reason why there was no rematch? Why? After the masterclass that Ali gave Foreman in Zaire, what possible reason would there have been for one?

The reason there was not a rematch is because George retired very soon after that fight and stayed retired for about 10 years until he started his second career at almost 40 yrs old.

I agree with Brad and Smitty. Both are correct. The fight that Foreman lost to Jimmy Young in San Juan was his last for ten years. Ali knew that Big George probably wouldn't fall for the rope a dope again.

JJ72 ~
George retired right after that fight, he had a "religious experience" in the locker room, according to doctors he was extremely dehydrated and was a tad bit out of his mind. He stayed retired for quite some time until his comeback in 1987 knocking out Steve Zouski in less than 5 rounds.

My bad! Brads right so is smitty along with Brent. I think it was because I wanted to forget those other fights, Ha. I really screwed this answer all up.

Thanks for the question JJ72.

It might have happened, if he kept boxing, but he retired in 1977 after his loss to Jimmy Young. He then unretired in 1987 but by then Ali was retired.

ALI WAS TOO SMART FOR THAT.

EDIT:

FOREMAN RETIRED AFTER THE JIMMY YOUNG BOUT.
