Most answers here are excellent. If we can maintain that awareness when dealing with Muslims, I believe our message for them would probably be welcome even in trickle and this site would have served its intended purpose as well.

My friend, the linage begins with Abraham. His sons were both blessed by God, but which received the promise? The firstborn, Ismael, born of the bond-woman Hagar; or the second son, Issac, born of his wife Sarah? Jews and Christians believe the covenant is with Issac, while you would say Ismael.
Genesis 17:18-21
"And Abraham said to God, "Oh that Ishmael might live before You!" But God said, "No, but Sarah your wife will bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; and I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him. As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I will bless him, and will make him fruitful and will multiply him exceedingly. He shall become the father of twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation. But My covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this season next year.""
As I Christian, all I can share with you is that Muhammad died, being just a man. Jesus Christ died, and was resurrected, having conquered death. He is alive! We follow a living God, the one true God, an active and dynamic God that interacts with us, who is alive within us. This is not some hopeful desire or vain imagining within our mind. God is real, and reveals Himself to those who covenant with Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. As Christians, we are children of the promise, adopted through Jesus, the Messiah.

i don't know how diplomatical this will sound, but this is what i believe....Jesus was sent first to the Jews, being God's chosen.however,it meant that God was opening the door to all peoples for His kingdom.as a thing, the Jewish people, and particularly the religious leaders did not like this.mostly because it would put everyone on equal ground standing before God.
Muhammed wishing to find favor with God and his own people, altered what he saw in the Scripture to give advantage of being chosen of God's people to a different sect than that mentioned in the Old Testament and a different "Way" than that in the New Testament.
the Koran mentions that Jesus was born of a virgin, mary.that He was also able to raise people from the dead.it assigns no such power to Muhammed(i have a Koran that i picked up when i was in iraq and have actually read that therein).....
anyway,that is what i believe.....

Diplomatically... huh? Why cover the truth with saccharine lies?
Besides, it would be difficult to be diplomatic, since Muslims take anything negatively said about Muhammad as an insult.
I'm sorry but Holy Holly was correct in her summation of Muhammad, he was a False Prophet.

Muhammad had a great record of record of raping, robbing, pillaging, and the use of terror to subject people to obey his teaching. History records his methodology is successful and his religion has helped eliminate Jews and Christians in many parts of the world through ethnic cleansing, preventing dissent against his way. Many tyrannical dictators have copied his methodology and Muhammad created an almost perfect method of human subjection by combining his religion and his politics.

I'd say they were Hertz and we were Avis or is it vice versa? (Old TV ad about the no. 2 car rental whose motto was we try harder) It's impossible not to insult a follower of that non-Christian faith. I would commend Mohammed for his view that persecution is worse than murder and would urge his followers to take heed of his other wise sayings and take them to heart.
Islam is like Christianity without imagination. Are you looking for the answer you already have ? If I may say so your mind is like a mirror reflecting what you have seen and heard. Tolerance is tedious.

So far the best I've been able to come up with is to ask them why they believe what the Koran says about Muhammad and not what the Bible says about Jesus. To call the validity of Muhammad's message into question is more than insulting to Muslims, so you have to leave off any comparisons.

A man who saw the need for the unification of the various tribes of his people and who couldn't bring it about politically or economically so did it the only way left, religiously. Worked too!

Mohammed tryed to make a religion of his own he based it off Christianity and jewdisim to help his own people who had over 100,000 Gods.Jesus died for mohammed. I would say his book or his(followers book) offends me because it say s to kill ALL who dont love Ala (or his prophet)? Now that is religious intolerance.

I think the question should be: Why would we acknowledge a fascist religion and take them seriously?
Christianity preaches peace and harmony among ALL people of ALL ages. Islam says any NON Islamists WILL rot in hell...not to mention a very violent religion claiming to be peaceful.
