I started feeding my baby meet and chicken since she was 8 months, and fish when she reached 10 months, realizing the great value of nutrition shes getting from fish and the scary facts we hear about daily on bird flue ad mad cow disease, I would like to switch her to only fish (permanently), but I live in the UK and fresh fish can be really expensive, is it alright to give her canned tuna along with fresh fish, so I won't need to buy fresh fish every day? or is it unsuitable for her age?

canned tuna contains Mercury in small doses. This could be harmful to a growing child. I wouldnt go over 1 tin a week and I would buy fresh fish. the child goes fastest between 0-3yrs so make sure you dont feed it anything that will affect its growth.

I believe nutritionists advise restricting the amount of canned tuna consumed because of the slight risk of contamination by heavy metals in the sea. I often buy plain frozen 'white fish' from the supermarket - it comes in bags of six or so fillets to pop in the freezer, it's quite inexpensive, and is great in recipes such as fish pie.

Canned tuna is fine in small quantities but don't give her too much as there may be small levels of mercury in the fish.

canned tuna is fine.there have been reports of it containing mercury, but the good things outweigh the bad.it's rich with omega 3-and they'd have to eat something like 30,000 tins for it to pose even the slightest danger from mercury
