After the first 8 answers I'd like to add the following biblical nuggets...
1. The atonement was the way "Jesus took upon himself the sins of the world". Garden of Gethsemane ring a bell here?

2. The crucifiction and subsequent death of Christ paved the way for the resurrection.

Or am I off base here.

I would like to add that I am in no way trying to be offensive here, I would just like some input. Christians only on the answers, please.

If I understand your question, you seem to be implying that the actual atonement took place in the "Garden" and not on the cross? This is error. Subsequent reading of the N.T. shows that it is the DEATH of Christ that effects the atonement of Sin. There is not one reference to the "Garden" experience doing that. And I'm sure Paul would have written "reams" about it, if that were true....theBerean

The first part of your question is TRUE, BUT what does the second part mean? We have to understand the question before we can answer. Please elaborate more so you can get a FULL answer, OR READ GODS WORD, (I take that you have tried by the second part), and you will have the answer you are seeking. If you need more help I will be happy to provide it with the Word of God as the Infallible Authority in these questions. AS the Word of God was WROTE by Holy Men, (the Prophets) SENT by God, and INSPIRED by the Holy Spirit, which was Sent From GOD through His Son, Jesus Christ. If you are confused I understand, that is why I said that I would be more then happy to help you.

Jesus did not die for christians' sins. Jesus died for all the sinners on earth. Only once you accept and believe this fact, and accept Jesus Christ as your personal saviour, do you become a christian. There is nothing to be careful about regarding this statement. We are all given the chance to repent and save our souls. You and me.

True.

1 John 2:2 And he [Jesus Christ] is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

Jesus died and rose again on the third day for the sins of all mankind. He ascended to Heaven. This I truly believe in my heart and soul. Glory to the Most High God!

1 Peter 3:18......Read it your selves. But it tells us Jesus died for all sins of the world. To reconcile mankind back to God. It is an opportunity for each and every one of us to go to Him and personally take our part in that great gift He bought us. Your belief before has nothing, nada, to do with anything He did.

Jesus died for the world's sins. Past, present, future. Everything.

However, you can't be forgiven until you are sorry for something.

Its symbolic not literal. Part of us must die (become transcended) before the true state of our being can be realized.

I don't have to be very careful, Yes he died for my sins, But not only died, But rose again & ascended up to heaven, if Jesus only died for our sins & did not rise again, our sins or faith is in vain, But since he rose & ascended back to heaven & sent the Holy Ghost that is our seal of redemption.
