You are right. It was a common name in Inverurie in the NE during the 15th and 16th centuries according to George.F.Black in his book The Surnames of Scotland. Unfortunately it gives no origin or a clan association. Bear in mind not all families in Scotland belonged to or were associated with clans especially in the Lowlands.
