Problem is in this phrase
"supposed to be "
got it.
If you suppose something, that doesn't make it truth.
A muslim can ask same question.
Why are chrsitians saying that Jesus is god if he is just a prophet.

For Christianity, Jesus is considered a part of the holy trinity (Father, son, holy spirit). Christians believe that Jesus is God's son, but Jesus never in the bible claims to be God's son. In Islam, Jesus is "the son of Mary", which makes him a human. God said for Mary to become pregnant when she was a virgin, and so it was. That does not mean that Jesus is God's son. Jesus, like Abraham, Moses, Noah and Muhammad (pbut) were all prophets of God. If Christians believe that Jesus is God, then that means that there is more than one God, which even in Christianity is wrong.

No apologies necessary. I think it's great that you asked this question in the spirit of enquiry and good faith. Muslims believe that Jesus is a prophet because in Muslim theology, Man cannot be Divine. Only God is Divine. And that is why, Muslims reject the idea of Trinity as well.

Muslims are right... Jesus was a Prophet.
Matthew 21:11
The crowds answered, "This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee."
Luke 24:20
"About Jesus of Nazareth," they replied. "He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. 20The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him.
John 6:14
After the people saw the miraculous sign that Jesus did, they began to say, "Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world."
Jesus was a prophet, priest and King.

A Prophet speaks for God. He spoke for God even before He became fully God when the anointing came on Him when He was baptised. In other words he operated as fully man in the capacity of Prophet and then the last few years He was God in the flesh of Jesus. He had in him the Mind of Christ.

jesus is said to be the son of god, not god personally.
but prophet is more likely, since there isn't any evidence he actually was god's son and those 'miracles' are written in a book that reads like an author on hard drugs than a true account.

Who dictated that Jesus is supposed to be God himself?
Surely, in disbelief are they who say that Allah is the Messiah, son of Maryam (Mary). Say (O Muhammad SAW): "Who then has the least power against Allah, if He were to destroy the Messiah, son of Maryam (Mary), his mother, and all those who are on the earth together?" And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them. He creates what He wills. And Allah is Able to do all things. [Quran 5:17]
Reflect on this verse from the bible:
"God IS not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?" Numbers 23:19
Also reflect on a few facts from the New Testament which alone are sufficient to show that Jesus is not God:
1) Jesus is recorded to have prayed to God in humility and on his face. Does God pray to Himself?
2)Jesus is recorded to have said: "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am the one I claim to be and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me. " [John 8:27] and also
"By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me." [John 5:13]
Jesus (as its recorded) is clearly denying in these verse that he does anything on his own, and affirming that he only speaks what God teaches him, which shows that Jesus is NOT God, and God is NOT Jesus.
The truth regarding God can be summed up in one small chapter from the Qur'an:
Say (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)): "He is Allah, (the) One.
"Allah, the Self-Sufficient,
"He begets not, nor was He begotten;
"And there is none co-equal or comparable unto Him."
May God guide you to the truth.

Any data may be true or false. Now on what bases you build your faith? We were told that Jesus did significant miracles to support his claims but some people who witnessed him chose to disbelieve. Why should we believe if we don't have any objective evidences today when Jesus himself believed in miracles as evidence for his truth. What objective reliable evidence you have that Jesus is supposed to be god or he said so? I am sorry if I insult you as some people strongly follow and prefer blind faith to evidence-based one.

How can Jesus be God? He can't because he was never God. God can't die either because God controls everything and if God died who would control everything? Jesus(PBUH*) is a prophet of ALLAH who worshiped ALLAH in Islam.
