I think you can tell by the way he looks at you, talks to you e.t.c. Whether he would ask you out on a date or not doesn't have to do only with him and if he likes you, but also with the response he gets from your behavior. If you treat him like he's not even there no matter how much he likes you he wouldn't ask. And we're talking about teenagers, no?

the movements may vary. from one guy to another. he may always talk and smile to you. but this is no sign he likes you, specially if he's like this to all the other girls. it may just be his nature to be friendly and gentlemanly. if you always catch him staring at you and avoiding your gaze once you lokk back, it may be another issue. try to feel, to uhm... sense... if he is liking you. then if you've got something to prove so, like him telling you, then go for it. by the way you ask, it seems you like him back. the better is to go ask your friend to ask him, but discreetly though. or you may look too desperate. remeber, your the girl. he should be the one to make the first move, though this is the 21st century and all.

he stars at you and smile, he watches walk a way, extra nice to you than he is to others, stands real close to you, may tell you things does not discuss with other people, very polite.
